CEO Shou-Gwo Wuu
Dr. S. G. Wuu joined Brillnics in 2015 and currently serves as its Chief Executive Officer. Before joining Brillnics, he was the CMOS Image Sensor division head at TSMC. During his career at TSMC, Dr. Wuu led a RD team to establish a CMOS image sensor technology roadmap from 0.18um FSI (Front Side Illumination), N65 BSI (Back Side Illumination) to N45 Stacked technology. Using bulk silicon as the substrate material, BSI became the mainstream manufacturing technology for CMOS image sensors, and Dr. Wuu earned 1st National Key Technology Innovator Award in 2011 as a result.
Since 2002 Dr. Wuu has served as committee member in IEDM (International Electron Device Meeting) and IISW (International Image Sensor Workshop). He has over 50 US patents and published over 40 papers. Dr.Wuu received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Materials Science Engineering from National Tsing-Hua University, Taiwan and his Doctoral degree in Microelectronics from Technical University Hamburg-Harburg, Germany.
Chief Scientist Junichi Nakamura
Junichi Nakamura received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in electronics engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan, in 1979 and 1981, respectively, and his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo in 2000.
During his career, he worked at Olympus Optical Co., Tokyo, the NASA Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL), California, and the Photobit Japan Branch in Tokyo. He joined Brillnics in 2014, after serving as Manager of Japan Imaging Design Center, Micron Japan, Ltd and as Director of the Japan Design Center of Aptina Japan, LLC.
Dr. Nakamura is a Fellow of the Institute of Image Information and Television Engineers of Japan. Since 1995, he has served as a member of Technical Program Committee of International Image Sensor Workshop and several technical conferences. He received the Takayanagi Memorial Award in 2009 for his contribution to the CMOS Active Pixel Sensor developments.
CTO/Senior VP R&D Isao Takayanagi
Isao Takayanagi received his M.S. degree in physics from Gakushuin University, Tokyo, Japan, in 1987 and his Ph.D. from Tohoku University in 2020.
From 1987 to 2000, he was with Olympus Optical Co., Ltd. and was engaged in research and development of active pixel sensors. He worked on semiconductor device modeling, technology development, scientific application image sensors and on-chip image processing. In 2000, he joined Photobit Corporation and was engaged in custom CMOS image sensor designs including a super-high-resolution video image sensor and a high-performance charged particle image sensor. From 2001, he performed CMOS image sensor design/development as a Senior Research Scientist at Japan Imaging Design Center of Micron Japan. From 2008, he was with Aptina Imaging as a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff. He joined Brillics in 2014, where he leads product development and manages R&D efforts.
Dr. Takayangi is a member of IEEE, Applied Physics of Japan and the Institute of Information Technology Engineering Japan (ITEJ).
CBO (Chief Business Officer) Ken Chen
Dr. Ken Chen received his Ph.D. in Materials Science, from Stanford University in 1992.
Since then he worked at Intel R&D for 3 years; and at TSMC as Sales, Technical and Strategic Marketing for 21 years.
During his tenure at TSMC, as Technical Marketing Director, Dr. Chen was accountable for TSMC’s CIS (CMOS Image Sensor) technology roadmap, marketing activities by working with RD and customers, from 2003 to 2009.
In 2016 Dr. Ken Chen was transferred from TSMC to Global Uni-Chip, as President; where RD focus and business Portfolio were gradually transformed into IP and Design Service Leader in HPC (the High Performance Computing) market.
In Nov./2022, Dr. Chen joined Brillnics as Chief Business Officer. He is responsible for sales and marketing functions to contribute, with Technology Leadership, for Brillnics to become a market leader.
Dr. Chen was honored as “The Outstanding President in HsinChu area”, in 2018.
Senior VP of Product Development Guang Yang
Dr. Guang Yang joined Brillnics in 2019 and currently serves as its Senior Vice President of Product Development. He is responsible for exploratory technology to commercialized product, customer engagement, and project development. Prior to his promotion to Senior Vice President in 2024, he was Vice President of Design, building up and leading the Brillnics Taiwan design team, sharing the responsibility of Brillnics project development.
Dr. Yang brings over 30 years of design and leadership experience in mixed-signal integrated circuits, semiconductor device physics, and device micro-fabrication with a specialization in CMOS sensor technology. Prior to joining Brillnics, Dr. Yang worked at Forza Silicon Inc., Dialog Semiconductor Inc., and NASA Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL).
In 1998, Dr. Yang received the Award for Excellence, the highest honor award from JPL, for his contributions in the development of CMOS active pixel sensor technology. Dr. Yang holds over 20 US patents, and he is the author or co-author of over 30 technical papers and about 15 NASA new technology reports.
Dr. Yang received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Physics from Fudan University in Shanghai, China, his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology in New Jersey, USA.VP Operation Ken Wen-Chien Fu
Ken Wen-Chien Fu joined Brillnics in 2015 and currently serves as its Vice President in Operation.
Ken brings experience of quality enhancement and cost reduction of semiconductor manufacturing.
Before joining Brillnics, he worked at TSMC and Macronix. When he was with TSMC from 2005 to 2015, he led Process Integration Department of CIS and HV and he headed up Product Integration Division of Solid State Lighting. He had led Thin Film Department, Etch Department and Process Integration Department when he worked in Macronix from 1991 to 2005.
Ken Wen-Chien Fu received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics from National Taiwan University.
VP of RD Program Execution Norio Yoshimura
Norio Yoshimura has served as vice president of R&D program execution since April, 2024.
Prior, he has held various position of increased responsibility and worked across many functions within R&D group.
Before joining the company, Norio worked at Aptina imaging and Micron Technology from 2005 to 2014, focusing on the high-end digital-camera market.
He began his career at Mitsumi Electric company as an analog engineer and developed ASICs and power supply ICs.
Norio graduated from Hokkaido University with a bachelor’s degree in engineering.
VP of Emerging Technology Rimon Ikeno
Rimon Ikeno received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electronics engineering from The University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan in 1992, 1994, and 1997, respectively.
He started his career as a silicon device researcher at Texas Instruments in Tsukuba, Japan in 1997. In 2001, he moved to the digital-signal processor (DSP) department in TI Japan and developed low-power DSP cores for mobile applications as a Senior Member of the Technical Staff. After leaving TI in 2008, he worked at TCAD International and TOPS Systems to lead R&D projects for low-power high-performance computing (HPC) systems.
In 2011, he joined VLSI Design and Education Center (VDEC), The University of Tokyo, and served as a Project Lecturer at Design-to-Test (D2T) Research Division where he managed various research projects on VLSI design, testing, and electron-beam lithography. He was also engaged in VLSI test education and administration of analysis and test facilities in VDEC.
In 2017, he joined Brillnics Japan Inc., Tokyo, Japan, and currently, he is in charge of advanced CMOS image sensor (CIS) development for AR/VR applications.
Dr. Ikeno is a member of IEEE and Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) of Japan. He is a co-recipient of the Best Paper Award of 2016 IEEE International Test Conference (ITC).
